How to check your bottles fit

Width. A standard Bordeaux bottle is about 3 in wide. Burgundy and Pinot Noir are about 3.3 in, Champagne about 3.5 in and a 1.5 L magnum about 4 in.

Slot. A bottle fits when it is a little narrower than the slot. Measure your widest bottle at its widest point.

Wall racks. A full 750 ml bottle weighs about 2.65 lb. Screw the rack into the studs (usually 16 in apart) or into masonry, never into drywall alone.

Three floating shelves instead of one big frame

This 39.4 inch wall mounted wine rack comes as three separate shelves. Each one is bent in a wave, with a raised step on one side, so the bottles sit at two heights and the wall looks less rigid than with flat boards.

Because the shelves are independent, you choose how far apart they go. Leave enough room above each one for the tallest bottle you plan to stand there.

Glasses hang under the bottom shelf

An 8-row glass rack is fixed under the lowest shelf. Slide wine glasses in by their base and they hang stem up, out of the dust and next to the bottles.

Fix each shelf into a stud

Bottles stand upright on these shelves, and a 750 ml bottle weighs about 2.65 pounds. Ten bottles on one shelf is already more than 26 pounds hanging on the wall.

Screw each shelf into wall studs or masonry. Drywall anchors alone are not meant for that load.
